Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from management,” the coach commented.

“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Problems and Player Response

Slot expressed regret over known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
