Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
